Telecoms & Connectivity
built for the systems that keep people connected.
GLC supports organisations developing telecoms and connectivity products where performance, protocol compliance, interoperability, and predictable system behaviour are critical to commercial success.
Our experience spans embedded software development across Layer 1, Layer 2, integration, and platform-level system work for wireless infrastructure products. This includes real-time software running on DSP and multicore processor platforms, embedded Linux environments, low-level driver interaction, and feature development aligned with 3GPP expectations.
We are particularly effective in programmes where complex radio and protocol stacks must move from design through integration into stable product releases, especially when teams need strong engineering ownership close to the customer site.

Case study: base station software development for 2G, 3G and LTE infrastructure
-
GLC supported a major client on-site in Stuttgart across multiple telecoms infrastructure programmes, covering both PHY and MAC layer development. The work spanned multimode base-station products supporting 2G and 3G, and later LTE Light Radio metro-cell platforms intended for dense deployment environments.
These programmes required hands-on software development close to the target hardware, practical understanding of processor and signal-chain constraints, and the ability to move efficiently between feature delivery, low-level debugging, integration, and product verification.
The client needed an experienced resource able to contribute immediately within established engineering teams while also supporting pre-integration and customer-facing trial activities.
The platforms involved DSP and FPGA interaction, embedded Linux application development, real-time behaviour analysis, and software running on Freescale QorIQ P3041 and P2020 boards. Work also included comparison against 3GPP conformance expectations and support for product variants transitioning from macro-cell to metro-cell architectures.
-
• Developed PHY-layer software for multimode 2G and 3G base-station products, including debugging across Tx and Rx signal paths
• Implemented and investigated RF device-driver behaviour and supported low-level DSP software issue resolution
• Designed C-based debug software to investigate FPGA issues and validate the ETH co-simulation interface between DSP and FPGA domains
• Performed performance investigations on DSP and FPGA signal-processing behaviour using MATLAB and laboratory test equipment
• Designed and implemented an automated Python-based regression framework that removed dependency on licensed tooling and enabled daily overnight test execution
• Verified and compared system behaviour against relevant 3GPP conformance expectations
• Developed LTE MAC layer functionality for Light Radio metro-cell platforms, including P-CQI, A-CQI, SR, and FPC
• Merged, reviewed, and verified software moving from macro-cell product baselines into metro-cell deployments
• Contributed to Linux system programming and communication mechanisms between applications, the Linux platform, and hardware drivers
• Analysed real-time application behaviour and processor-architecture performance on multicore embedded platforms
• Supported integration activities and provided on-site assistance during product trials at the customer site

GLC provided hands-on telecoms software expertise across multiple critical workstreams, helping the client progress both multimode base-station and LTE metro-cell development within demanding delivery environments.
The collaboration of GLC with Alcatel-Lucent lasted for almost 3 years. During that period, the work strengthened feature delivery, debugging capability, pre-integration readiness, and regression efficiency, while supporting cleaner transfer of software across product variants and deployment scenarios.
By combining protocol-level understanding with practical embedded and system-level engineering, GLC contributed to more predictable integration, faster issue resolution, and stronger support for field-trial and customer-facing activities.
